Pro Shift Kit pn: SHFT-PRO-KT99-CER Hybrid Ceramic microbearing arm and F-Pro Shift Spring (does not include clutch cover gasket) $139.95 |
Virtually eliminate missed shifts and false neutrals. Quicker shifts. The 690 has lazy shift action. Not what you want when Super Motard racing or jumping those doubles or splitting that lane. Factory Pro's opinion is that if you nudge the bike out of one gear, it ought to go into the next gear. The stock shifting, on the KTM 990, can be sketchy under even recreational use. Some individual bikes, more than others, have a propensity for false neutrals and missed shifts in critical situations. Changing the oil can make, maybe a 10% difference and perhaps moving the lever up or down can make a 10% difference - and this shift kit is a stunning 100% difference. In other words, use any old oil and have your lever set almost anywhere realistic and it will still shift well. Virtually eliminate missed shifts and false neutrals. Installation: About 1-2 hours - no case splitting required. The clutch basket has to be removed to install the arm and spring. Available with Steel or Hybrid Ceramic Microbearing Close to San Francisco? We can install. Call for service appointment. 415 472-4962 Call to buy and ship. 800 869-0497 |

A new bike "snicks" into each gear, sweetly. The stock shift spring wears out and ends up delivering soft action, indistinct shifts and occasional unexpected false neutrals. The flaccid shifting 950/990 syndrome. This F-Pro spring will: Virtually eliminate missed shifts and false neutrals caused by quick, weak or sloppy shifting in the 950 and 990. A customer told me that "Yeah, it doesn't shift nicely, I just boot it when it's important that I don't miss a shift.". Our opinion is that if you nudge the bike out of one gear, it ought to go into the next gear. The stock shifting, on some bikes, can be sketchy under even recreational use. Some individual bikes, more than others, have a propensity for false neutrals and missed shifts in critical situations. Changing the oil can make, maybe a 10% difference and perhaps moving the lever up or down can make a 10% difference - and this shift spring kit is something like an 95% difference. In other words, use any old oil and have your lever set almost anywhere realistic and it will still shift well. Factory Pro can massage your shift mechanism back into a "snick, snick, snick" shifting transmission. Virtually eliminate missed shifts and false neutrals. Installation: About 1-2 hours - requires clutch basket removal and replacement. Close to San Francisco? We can install. Fuel injection tuning |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
TuneECU screen |
TuneECU and Tuneboy KTM Trackday Tuning Specialist The 990'e are variable - an occasional few run fairly smoothly and some (most) surge a bit and many are super abrupt on the on / off / barely on throttle operation - kind of like what you don't want on a big, strong, torquey bike. Many 990's are just not
enjoyable to ride on a trail. The fuel injection tuning is one of the
few faults of the bike. Proper tuning fuel, ignition, crossover tables, device activation tables will smooth out the lowend and improve power delivery linearity to make the bike sweet and nice to ride. (and 'oh darn", will make more peak hp, too :-) Wheelsmith / Factory uses the EC997 dyno - with Realtime HP and torque readout and a 5 gas Exhaust Analyzer - and that's why results are likely to be better than a dealership level dyno that only "tunes to an air-fuel ratio" (as if there is some magic afr). I've heard reports in MotorcycleUSA.com that
common dealership level dynos
can take "120 dyno runs to tune" a KTM. That's abusive to your bike. It's fine
for a magazine test bike, but not yours. Wheelsmith has been tuning KTM twins since the first 950's came out - in fact, the 950 jetting kit that Factory Pro / Wheelsmith developed is the best performing 950 jet kit available to this very day. Wheelsmith (Factory Pro's R&D division) is available to tune your 990 - be it TuneECU, Tuneboy or a simple power commander. Note: A power commander is limited in what it can adjust and can't tune for maximum smoothness as well as TuneECU or Tuneboy. We suggest TuneECU at this time - it's reflashing the
stock ECU with custom mapping and tuning - Wheelsmith Tuning Direct: 415 883-5620 ..................................... Feedback Oct, 2015

Notes: |
I once had a ktm 990 that was stubbornly overrich at about 1% throttle. Not .5% and not 2% - just at 1%. I tried the IAP table. I tried the TPS table. I tried changing the FL table without results. After the customer checked and reset sensors, it was still bad at 1% throttle. Turned out to be the crankcase vent check valve. thanks to Chris Parks |

The extension of the laboratory
for engines of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology was completed
in about 1935. Its architect was Rudolf Otto Salvisberg (1882-1940).
He had a successful career in Berlin but returned to Switzerland after
the advent of the Nazis. His architectural style was somewhat similar
to that of Erich Mendelsohn. The staircase of the laboratory is in normal
use but well preserved. Edited to the tunes of Chemical Residue by Herbie Hancock. |
