are trying to tune on a dj dyno, we have reports that the topend power
does not show up under inertia loading. Tech: Main Air Jet location |
CRB-S36-2.0 Airbox Plus Configuration carb kit for: for user modified "OPEN TOP" K&N race filter with stock airbox $189.95 includes: carb kit and alloy tank risers |
This is the original APK "AirBox Plus Kit" for the SV650 It's a special Factory Pro designed kit for a
modified air filter and will make
2-3 True HP over a stock jetted bike - IF properly tuned. This carb kit is not just a regular carb kit with a different main jet. This kit also includes the elegant Factory Pro Tank Riser kit. This kit does require air filter modifications. CHECK WITH YOUR RACING ORGANIZATION FOR LEGALITY! Update:/font> There's some additional carb mods that
could be done to make it a bit better when individually tuned on a good
dyno and I always said that I'd make a more expensive 2.0 kit if ANY
tuner ever noticed it. It was my "state of mc tuning" test. Kind of like
the black obelisk in the movie 2001.

CRB-S36-1.1-ti
$99.95 for the stock airbox |
Ti drop-in carb
recal kit Use with stock or aftermarket exhaust Adds more low-end / midrange, if
the proper main jet is selected, more top-end power. Easy to install and
tune - no slide drilling. Note: On the SV, no carb kit will "MAKE" horsepower. A Carburetor Recalibration Kit tm will allow you to install the combination of jets that will allow your bike / exhaust / intake system, together, to make as much power as the engine / exhaust / intake system CAN possibly make. |

Needle Jet Rebuild $280.00 Call 415 883-5620 |
Yep! It's true - the needle jets on the SV carbs wear out - just like the VL1500's and the cbr600's and 900's...... Happens with stock needles, stainless and titanium needles..... We can rebuild them for $280 + shipping. So - If your SV has started racking up the miles and seems to be getting rich and sloppy at low rpm (especially), and you can't fix by lowering the fuel level anymore - it's time to rebuild them - |
So, one week, we were messin'
around (I mean carefully testing components.....) and decided to work
a bit on the venerable SV650. |
|
So - we dynoed it, all stock exhaust, cams and carburetion and got about: |
60 True HP (maybe 69 dynojet hp) |
Then we added a couple SV intake cams for the exhaust and our APK SV Carb kit with tank risers, with "not spectacular" improvements. | like 61 - 62 True
HP (adding intake cam to exh side + jettting) |
Next, we installed a set of
Megacycle cams that we were evaluating, still with stock exhaust and with
the same APK carb kit. Ok - That's pretty good. power. Added about 5 with the Megacycle cams. |
65 True HP (adding 4 Megacycle cams) (maybe 75 dynojet hp) |
Finally, we added a Leo Vinci
exhaust system. Exhausts on the SV don't normally add 10 HP - but the combination of a well designed exhaust cam + a well designed race exhaust will deliver better total power than either of the single items would, used individually. |
75.9 True HP (maybe 87 dynojet hp) 25% HP |
I've dynoed many
"race" SV's and very few match the power that this one put out - and
this isn't even a full racebike - it's a trackday bike...... When you use a properly designed
dynamometer, like the EC997 (not
a dealership level dynojet with
mythical hp numbers) you can isolate and manipulate many small engine
details that will ultimately produce far superior results - like this. Parts and labor: Under $2200 parts and labor? Sure beats "high comp" "flat top pistons" and the wrong cams and complete topend disassembly for twice the money and less power...... 415 883-5620 So..... what would it be like if we did porting,
a bit of cylinder and head milling, cam degree dyno tuning, Factory
Pro billet velocity stacks, airbox mods? Maybe 80+ True hp (90 to 94
dynojet dyno hp) with still a stock bore and CV carbs?? |

Shifting issues with SV650's can be seemingly random. It is the centering on the shift shaft that aggravates either upshifting or downshifting, |
||
<
This is good. The pins are centered between fingers when the shift shaft is at rest. |
||
< This is not so good. The pins are not centered between fingers when the shift shaft is at rest. If they don't drop down fully, beyond the "pins", that prevents the "fingers" from dropping down and getting ready for the next shift. If you've got issues - check! |

Adjustable Center Shift Stud SV650, SV1000, DL1000,
TL1000 |
If the shift shaft fingers aren't centered on the shift shaft, Factory Pro has the fix. It's a special
offset "centering" stud, adjustable by almost 1mm.
The difference in the above example was only .31mm/.024". Install the stud with
enough threads exposed for the locknut. This fits all the SV650's, (and probably the 1000's) $19.95 90149-08094-00 |
This Carb Recal Kit developed on the same EC997a Eddy Current dyno that developed the K59-1.7-RK ZX-6R RaceKit (Muzzy and Kinko's choice), the Y73-1.7-RK YZF750 (Vance and Hines choice), S37-1.7-RK GSX-R750, Suzuki of France and most of America's privateer racers choice)...

The extension of the laboratory
for engines of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology was completed
in about 1935. Its architect was Rudolf Otto Salvisberg (1882-1940).
He had a successful career in Berlin but returned to Switzerland after
the advent of the Nazis. His architectural style was somewhat similar
to that of Erich Mendelsohn. The staircase of the laboratory is in normal
use but well preserved. Edited to the tunes of Chemical Residue by Herbie Hancock. |
